Your mission

Having a personal mission can help someone live a meaningful and fulfilling life.

It outlines what your purpose is in life, and provides a roadmap for making decisions and taking action.

It should be something that is meaningful to you and that resonates with your values and beliefs.

Specialty

It doesn’t matter whether or not you understand how a fuel combustion engine works – if you turn the key in a car, it’ll most likely start. You don’t need to know formulae to understand Newton’s laws – if it goes up, it’s going to come down.

But there are mechanics – who better know how that engine works. We have physicists who study, teach, or experiment. Just because the general public doesn’t need to know the specific of something doesn’t mean that there shouldn’t be those who do. Specialists fill a vital role in the world, providing indispensable expertise and insight into complex problems. Their knowledge is essential for the development of new technologies, and for the advancement of society as a whole.

And that is the main reason to specialize. In something.

The search for happiness

Happiness is a feeling that we all strive for. It is something that can be hard to find, or it can smack us upside the head.

One of the most important things to remember when searching for happiness is to be mindful of the present moment. Many times, we can become lost in our thoughts, worrying about the future and ruminating over the past. This can lead us to miss out on the joys of the present. To seek happiness, it is important to be mindful and appreciate the small moments and beauty that life has to offer.

A digital library

When Guttenberg invented the printing press in 1450, it revolutionized information access. What could have taken years by hand could now be achieved in days. Though widespread literacy was still a long way off, the potential of the printing press thrust society forward by allowing it to disseminate ideas and information cheaper, faster, and more effectively.

Advances kept coming, but nothing was as drastic. Nothing, that is, until the internet took digital information and made it accessible instantaneously. The internet has revolutionized communication and information, with the potential to bring together people around the world. It has enabled the free exchange of ideas and knowledge, and has given people the power to create and share content in ways never before imagined.

Thus, with digital libraries, information can be accessed faster than ever before, stored in the cloud or read via computer, eReader, or phone. And so, nearly six centuries later, we’ve reached a new pinnacle of ideation and its dissemination. This digital revolution has changed the way we think, create and communicate.

Insight

Many times, it’s just that one flash of inspiration.

That moment of clarity can be the difference between a creative breakthrough and stagnancy.

Having a creative spark can open new doors and possibilities.

It helps to bring new ideas and perspectives to the table, and lets you capitalize on them.

Let it be

Life is interesting. If you let it be.

There’s always something to learn, something to explore, and something to discover. We just have to be open to it.

Life is full of surprises, and it’s up to us to take advantage of all that it has to offer.

Game theory

Game theory is the study of how people behave in strategic situations, where the outcome of a participant’s choice of action depends on the choices of other participants. It can be applied to a wide range of topics, from economics and business to politics and military strategy. Currently, its uses are widespread, though somewhat academic.

For instance, game theory has been used in recent years to help predict the outcome of elections, as well as to model the behavior of markets and their participants. To put to practical use, we would need to develop algorithms that can interpret and analyze the data generated by these models. We would also need to identify patterns in the data and use them to accurately predict the outcome of certain scenarios. Finally, we would need to develop strategies that can be implemented based on these predictions.

In the example of election outcome, without contributing factors that may influence the election, it’s little more than a prediction model. And influencing elections in significant enough ways to alter the results could run dangerously close to ethics violations.

Still, with enough data and powerful enough computing, real-world predictions could be made about very nearly any subject matter. This could lead to a whole new world of data-driven decision-making in politics and policy, as well as other areas like health care, transportation, and education. Such an approach could potentially revolutionize the way we make decisions.

The magazine stack

I don’t have many subscriptions to periodicals. A couple alumni publications. One film industry trade magazine. Digital subscription to the New York Times. And that’s about it.

It seems that, like most of the US, I get the majority of my news from the internet. I do find that I stay informed this way and can easily find articles from a variety of sources.

The issue I still seem to have, though, is the physical copies piling up in my home. Somehow I have a stack of magazines just begging to be read. And I can’t just make myself sit down to go through them!

And here’s the advice I read: “I really want to read the old issues but deep down I know this is a waste of counter space and a constant reminder I’ll never read all those great articles. Time to adjust using the “ignore” technique. I still get excited when the print version shows up, but if last week’s edition is still on the coffee table when the new one arrives, I feel no guilt recycling it.”

And maybe that’s a good way to approach it.

The well-used life

As a well spent day brings happy sleep, so life well used brings happy death.

– Leonardo da Vinci

How does one live a life well lived? Different people want different things. It could mean enjoying life to the fullest, finding a purpose and fulfilling it, or living with kindness and integrity. Not lying down at the end, saying this or that is a regret.

Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide how to use their life well.
