More than nine years and 1,400 posts is a lot to wade into. So if you’re new, here’s a shortcut – five posts that seem to be me, or at least why I’m doing this most days.
Why I write — Where this started. A decade-old note found in a drawer, a job I left, and the realization that I’d always liked writing without ever quite calling myself a writer.
To an audience of one — What the daily practice actually does for me. Morning pages, self-censorship, and the thing Pressfield calls Resistance.
Considering their journals — I’ve accumulated about thirty personal notebooks, still think I might be burning them all someday before I go, and some friends I keep in that regard (Sontag, Cohen, Klee).
Stewardship — Where things stand now. Somehow, I’ve become the person people bring their half-formed ideas to.
Clarity — A short one to end on. None of us really know what we’re doing. I certainly don’t! And that’s fine.
Read those five, in order or not, and you’ll have a decent map of what goes on here. Everything else is just me, most days, thinking out loud.
